Marguerite Belkin, Artist
Growing up in Washington, D.C., afforded me a great deal of exposure to fine arts and craft museums. I earned a degree from Vassar and a Master's from Smith, but it was not until three years ago that I actually became an artisan. I discovered origami, and was fascinated with the process of transforming simple paper into works of art. For me, the process is a meditation.
I have studied with American origami master Joan Son and am inspired by the work of master Molly Kahn. My work has been sold at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Archway Gallery, Houston, as well as several other galleries nationwide. I have taught jewelry making at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.
"The Pursuit of Happiness", an origami collage as triptych, is touring with The Perfect Fit: Shoes Tell Stories through 2011. I am a member of Origami USA and the Houston Origami Society.
I live with my husband Bob in Houston, Texas.
